THE K.J. BATHE AWARD 2018

The K.J. Bathe Award is for the Best Paper by a Young Researcher in the Field of Computational Engineering published in the International Journal Computers & Structures during 2016-2017.

Computers & Structures is pleased to announce that the Fifth K.J. Bathe Award will be made in 2018. This award is named to recognize the outstanding contributions made by Professor K.J. Bathe over many years to the field of computational engineering. This Award is made every two years. The 2018 Award will be given to an author of the best paper published in Computers & Structures in the years 2016 and 2017. The K.J. Bathe Award includes a certificate and 5,000 euros donated by the publishers of Computers & Structures, Elsevier Ltd. The author should be under the age of 40 on 1 January 2018.

Full sponsorship will be available to enable the winner to attend the international conference where the award will be presented. The winner will have the opportunity to meet Professor K.J. Bathe and members of the Editorial Board of Computers & Structures during this conference.

An international panel chaired by Professor Barry H.V. Topping will select the winner. The panel's decision is final.

Applicants who wish to be considered for this award should send an email to Professor Topping using the email address (batheaward2018 AT bhvt.org.uk). The application email should use "Bathe Award 2018 Application" as the subject of the email and answer the following questions in the numbered order given below. The answers should be in the body of the email not in an attachment.

  1. Give your full name
  2. Date of Birth
  3. Full Postal Address: Tel and Fax number including international codes.
  4. Full reference for the paper that you are applying for (Format: Author names, "paper title", Computers & Structures, vol x, n x, pages xx-xx, year. doi XXXXXX
  5. A statement 100-120 words (no symbols or equations permitted) making clear why your paper is of such merit that it should be given the Bathe Award. (Do not repeat the abstract of your paper). This is your opportunity to make a special case for this prestigious award - please take the opportunity to make your claim carefully.
  6. Attach to the email a scan of your passport or ID card to confirm your date of birth.

Applications should be sent without delay and no later than Saturday 30th June.

Please note applications may not be made for an accepted proof. Applications can only be made for a paper that has been published (printed) and assigned volume and page numbers - dated 2016 or 2017.
